On Grifo web-site it is available an interesting Free of ChargePractical/Theorical Mini Course for BASCOM Compiler which includes a large number of Demo programs.
This course is available both for 8051 Micro family and AVR.
It includes managing programs for basic simple I/O functions up to more complex applications using the Free Demo version of the compiler able to manage up to 4K of code.
Among the various programs it could be interesting to have a look at that one that generates a Morse Code; Management of a Display; Servomotors and so on.
